Masahiko Imanishi
Born in 1971 in Tanba-Tachikui, Hyogo Prefecture, Masahiko Imanishi is a ceramic artist deeply rooted in the traditions of Tanba ware, one of Japan’s six ancient kilns. After initially training in Kyoto, Imanishi considered establishing his practice in Karatsu or Bizen but felt a particular resonance with Tanba. Now based there, he utilizes a wood-fired kiln known as a "ja-gama" or "snake kiln," firing it fewer than 10 times a year. He emphasizes in creating large jars, which reveal a variety of textures and finishes depending on the cooling process.
