Chiharu Kumamoto, is a master of Karatsu ware known for his modern take on this traditional craft. He began his career as a pottery instructor before founding his own studio, Akamizugama, in 1976. Now joined by his son, Sho Kumamoto, they work together to preserve and innovate within the Karatsu ware tradition. Sho brings a fresh perspective to the studio, crafting earthenware that combines local Karatsu clay and traditional glazes with an experimental approach that reflects his desire to break free from convention.
