This western-styled sake cup is crafted using a fascinating technique called “tama-mushi” or jewel beetle coating, which involves applying sterling silver on the vessels before coating them with a deep red lacquer, producing a metallic yet translucent effect similar to a beetle's wing. Takao Togashi, a renowned lacquer artist, is known for his intriguing style that pushes the boundaries between East and West. Artist: Takao Togashi

A lacquer artist from Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture. He is the third generation of Nushi Ichitomi, a renowned lacquerware studio focusing on the tradition of Aizu lacquerware. Though rooted in the heritage of this craft, Mr. Togashi is known for his intriguing style that pushes the boundaries between East and West, beyond the old world and new.


Instructions for use

To use this product safely and comfortably, please follow the instructions below:

  • Do not use the product in places subject to water to keep out mold. In case of getting wet, please dry it completely in a well-ventilated place.
  • Never soak lacquerware in water for a long time.
  • Never leave lacquerware under direct sunlight directly or in high humidity, this is to avoid the risk of transformation, discoloration and mold.
  • To remove oily spots or fingerprints, wipe with a soft cloth.
  • Never use scrubbing brushes, scouring powders or dish washing machines.
  • As these are handmade products, each piece will look slightly different.
