This sake cup beautifully exemplifies one of the distinctive decorative techniques of Karatsu ware, known as kawakujira. The blackened rim, painted with iron-based pigment, contrasts elegantly with the lighter body of the vessel, evoking the imagery of a whale (kujira in Japanese) with its dark skin (kawa) and pale underbelly.

Raizan Yasunaga
A ceramic artist based in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture. Drawn to Karatsu ware, he honed his craft studying under Sajiro Tanaka and Dohei Fujinoki. Later he built his own nobori-gama (climbing kiln) in Osugi, Karatsu, and became independent. Using various techniques of Karatsu ware, he dedicated himself to the art of ceramics, striving to express the beauty brought to life by the harmony between people and nature.

Care Instructions

- Do not use in dishwasher or microwave.
- Do not use in oven or on open fire.
- Clean the product with non-abrasive, soft scouring pad.
- For your own safety, do not use any item that is chipped or cracked.

"Medome" method for new pottery:
- Put the pottery into a pot with some rice grains (alternatively rice powder, flour or starch) and fill up water.
- Boil it on low heat for 10 to 20 minutes.
- Let it cool down, rinse well and dry thoroughly.

The shipping fee is SGD25.00 (up to 20kgs). For purchase over SGD300 & above, you may enjoy a special rate of SGD15.00 for express shipping.

When can I receive my order?

1. Local Shipping (Standard)

Upon receiving your order, please allow us 1-3 business days to prepare the shipment. Your order should arrive within 3-5 business days.

2. Local Shipping (Express)

To secure delivery on next day, please place your order before 2pm and choose express shipping. For orders made by 4pm between Monday to Friday, we will schedule delivery on the next day. For orders made on Sundays and Public Holidays, the earliest delivery will be on the following business day.

Yes, you may opt for self-collection for your ordered items at Duxton Hill gallery.

Once you proceed to checkout the items in your cart, you will be guided to the payment page. In the delivery method section, please choose the "Pick up" option. We will send you an email notification as soon as the item is ready for pickup.

Upon your arrival at the gallery, kindly provide your name and order number for verification purposes.

Can you gift wrap my order?
