This set of sake cups is handcrafted using "magewappa", a  traditional Japanese craft that involves bending thin strips of cedar wood to create lightweight and elegant wooden wares with a distinctive aroma and aesthetic appeal. An additional aspect that adds to the beauty to these sake cups is the delicate cherry bark stitching. Once the cups have been shaped and dried, glue is applied to the joint ends and clamped for several hours before the fastening holes are carved and stitched together using wild cherry bark. The intricate stitching process ensures the durability of the products and showcases the artisan’s unique style and individuality.

A lacquerware brand produced by a vendor/manufacturer of Yamanaka lacquerware in Shibata Yoshinobu Shoten was founded in 1966 by Yoshinobu Shibata, a skilled craftsman specializing in “magewappa” - a traditional bentwood craft originated in Odate, Akita Prefecture. With a passion for preserving and promoting this unique art form, the founder dedicated himself to establishing the Odate Magewappa Assiociation. His efforts were fruitful, and in 1980, “magewappa” was officially designated as one of Japan’s traditional crafts.

Care Instructions

To use this product safely and comfortably, please follow the instructions below:

- Wash before first use with water or warm water.
- Do not use in dishwasher or microwave.
- Do not use in oven or on open fire.
- Clean the product with non-abrasive, soft scouring pad.
- Dry thoroughly with cloth after washing.
- For your own safety, do not use any item that is chipped or cracked.
- Never soak lacquerware in water for a long time. After using, wash as soon as possible and wipe with a dry cloth.
- Store away from direct sunlight directly or in high humidity environment.
- Never use scrubbing brushes, scouring powders or dishwashing machines.

What are the shipping charges?

1. Local Shipping (Standard)

The shipping fee is SGD10.00 (up to 2kgs) and free shipping for purchase over SGD300 & above.
Please note that this applies to local shipping only.

2. Local Shipping (Express)

The shipping fee is SGD25.00 (up to 20kgs). For purchase over SGD300 & above, you may enjoy a special rate of SGD15.00 for express shipping.

When can I receive my order?

1. Local Shipping (Standard)

Upon receiving your order, please allow us 1-3 business days to prepare the shipment. Your order should arrive within 3-5 business days.

2. Local Shipping (Express)

To secure delivery on next day, please place your order before 2pm and choose express shipping. For orders made by 4pm between Monday to Friday, we will schedule delivery on the next day. For orders made on Sundays and Public Holidays, the earliest delivery will be on the following business day.

Yes, you may opt for self-collection for your ordered items at Duxton Hill gallery.

Upon your arrival at the gallery, kindly provide your name and order number for verification purposes.

For products that come with a box, you may choose ribbon wrapping (+SGD1) or mizuhiki wrapping (+SGD2).
